CHICAGO, Illinois (May 5, 2016) — A panel discussion titled “Growth Opportunities Associated with Halal Foodservice” will take place in room S405 at 11:30 am CDT on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the National Restaurant Association show being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. The panel, which features powerhouses in the foodservice, halal certification, and US trade sectors, will discuss the growth in the halal economy and the opportunities presented in the foodservice sector.

Asma Ahad, director of halal market development at the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®); Constance Chambers, resident district manager at Aramark; Scott Freitag, vice president quality systems and regulatory at Custom Culinary® Inc.; and Quintin Gray, agriculture counselor at the US Consulate in Dubai, UAE, share their vast experience in understanding and servicing the needs of halal consumers.

The halal economy is experiencing unprecedented growth, both domestically and globally. In the United States, halal consumers spend an estimated $20 billion a year on food, while globally halal food expenditures exceed $1.1 trillion a year. Dr. Muhammad Munir Chaudry, president of IFANCA notes, “Over the past several decades, the food industry has developed robust halal compliance programs. This has facilitated the current growth in the halal foodservice sector.” Mr. Gray adds, “Looking at the global agricultural commerce landscape, I see halal as an enabler for the expansion of US trade.”

No matter where you fit in the supply chain, everyone from ingredient manufacturers to service providers will benefit from the experiences of these industry leaders.

Seating at the session is limited so mark your calendars and come to room S405 early to listen to and interact with the panelists.
