Following the death of their 23-year-old daughter, Zunaira, in a fatal car accident in January 2004, Schaumburg residents Syed Zaheer Khader and Zehra Zaheer Khader, agreed to help underwrite a scholarship in their daughter’s memory. Zunaira was a second year student at John Marshall Law School, Chicago. The scholarship will be awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of the Muslim Law Student Association.

Naheda Zayyad, a third-year student, has been named the first recipient of the Zunaira Zaheer Khader Memorial Scholarship. Following her graduation in January 2006 Zayyad intends to pursue a career as a criminal lawyer. She has been vice president of the Muslim Law Student Organization, secretary of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Organization and treasurer of the Law Enforcement Society Organization at school.
