Assalaamu alaikum,
Education takes many forms. It extends far beyond classrooms and textbooks, shaping how we live, work, and contribute to the world around us. In this issue of Halal Consumer Magazine, we explore how education impacts everyday life as part of IFANCA’s continued mission of “halal for all.”
From its earliest days, IFANCA sought to educate the community through newsletters that provided guidance on halal and haram products. Over time, this commitment expanded to include textbooks and other resources to support consumers, students, and industry professionals in understanding halal standards.
Our cover story, “A Seat at the Table: Advocating for Halal Food and Muslim Student Needs,” follows a student’s journey navigating campus dining and prayer spaces while working toward better halal access and a more inclusive campus experience for Muslim students. It highlights how lived experience, persistence, and collaboration can lead to systemic change on campus.
The once-popular Food Pyramid has been replaced by updated USDA dietary guidelines that emphasize balanced meals built around fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein. “School Lunchbox Prep: Simple, Halal, and Healthy Ideas for Busy Families” reflects this shift with practical tips, and fresh ideas for healthy lunchboxes.
Sports drinks are popular among students, but do they live up to their marketing claims? “Sugar with a Sprinkle of Electrolytes” explores when these beverages are actually needed and highlights simple homemade alternatives for effective hydration.
Education is not limited to academics alone. “Physical Education Builds Muscle and Mind” explores how school PE classes and team sports support children’s physical health while strengthening focus, resilience, teamwork, and confidence.
Supporting professional development, “US Halal Academy: Making Halal Training Inclusive Across America” showcases IFANCA’s training initiative that equips food industry professionals with essential knowledge of halal standards, strengthening implementation across the global food industry.
“Cultivating the Future of Halal: IFANCA’s Impact on Education and the Next Generation of Food Scientists” highlights how educational partnerships and scholarships are preparing the next generation of food industry professionals who understand both technical excellence and halal integrity, as highlighted by Texas A&M University’s Food Diversity Program.
Finally, lifelong learning extends beyond formal education, taking shape in classes, museums, and cultural spaces. “Education, Community, and Cultural Outreach: How IFANCA’s Initiatives Serve Our Communities” shows how spaces such as the Abrahamic Center for Cultural Education (ACCE) and the Sabeel Center for Community Development bring education to life through exhibitions and community engagement.
At its core, this issue reflects a collective goal: education as a pathway to empowerment, knowledge, and halal integrity.
