Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1-inch ginger root, sliced or grated
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1 cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon anise seeds or ½ teaspoon anise powder
  • honey and lemon juice to taste

Step 1

Bring water, ginger, turmeric, pepper, cinnamon, and anise to a boil in a tea kettle.

Step 2

Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3

Turn off heat and steep for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add honey and lemon juice to taste.

Serve hot or cold.
