DUBAI, UAE (November 25, 2013) — The Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®) received the Islamic Economy Award for Compliance and Standardization at the Global Islamic Economy Summit (GIES®). The award is based on IFANCA’s exemplary halal compliance procedures and practices that it maintains in more than 50,000 food, beverage and pharmaceutical products in over 100 countries.

The Islamic Economy Award is the flagship award for the Global Islamic Economy Summit organized by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading information provider. It is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. The Islamic Economy Award celebrates established and emerging companies that have demonstrated significant business and social impact using the Islamic economic ethos.

Dr. Muhammad Munir Chaudry, president of IFANCA, received the award and commented by saying, “It is an honor to be recognized for not only best global practices in halal ingredient certification but also the social impact that IFANCA has provided to the global food industry. The production of halal certified food creates jobs, grows companies and improves lives and communities. I am proud of my IFANCA team for dedicating their lives towards maintaining first-class halal compliance standards that help halal consumers enjoy products everywhere in the world.”

Dr. Muhammad Munir Chaudry was also a speaker at the conference on a panel titled “Halal Lifestyle — Total Health Management or Just Ingredients? Advancing the Concept of Halal Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care.” The Global Islamic Economy Summit 2013 was designed to facilitate a forum for Islamic finance sectors and the halal industries — including food, travel and lifestyle. Attendees were invited to engage in meaningful discussions, tackle the most important challenges, and chart paths for the future of the Islamic economy. The conference featured 14 Islamic Economy Award categories including Islamic microfinance, halal food, travel, media, SME development, and a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
