SKOKIE, Illinois (January 28, 2011) – The Chicago-based Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®) will be talking about the halal status of ingredients on January 28, 2011, during the Compassionate Care Network (CCN) Quarterly Provider Meeting. The talk is entitled Recommendations to Muslim Community about Halalness of Ingredients, and will take place at Skokie’s Holiday Inn Northshore.

Compassionate Care Network (CCN) was started in January 2004 to promote health awareness and to provide access to affordable healthcare for the uninsured. CCN is founded by local Chicago doctors, and has provided free monthly health screenings since its inception. Dr. Farhat Quadri, director of community relations at IFANCA, looks forward to this educational session. “As a medical practitioner, it is important to know the dietary concerns of your patients,” says Dr. Quadri. Dr. Quadri hopes this discussion can help CCN doctors understand the concern from pro bono patients with halal dietary values, as well as educate CCN’s volunteer doctors on available options are present when prescribing halal medicines and vaccines.

The educational session will take place on January 28, 2011, from 7PM to 9PM at the Holiday Inn Northshore. The program also includes a presentation entitled Observations of Cooking and Eating Habits in the Muslim Community by Yvonne Maffei, editor of My Halal Kitchen, as well as some words from Syed Hyder, owner and director of Home Healthcare Renewal Services (HHRS).
