Fifteenth Annual Chicago Muslim Turkey Drive
CHICAGO, Illinois (November 19, 2015) — For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Chicago Muslim Turkey Drive Committee will be distributing turkeys at the following Chicago locations:
Over the years, the number of turkeys distributed has increased from 300 to 1,500. The drive was initiated by a small group of Muslims who saw an opportunity to support deserving families in the Chicago Public School system. Since its inception, distribution has expanded from one school to three schools as well as to a neighborhood support group. With the expanded scope, the Sabeel Food Pantry offered to accept contributions for the drive and enthusiastic volunteers handle the actual distribution.
We thank the staff at the Chicago Public Schools for making their facility available so we can practice our civic duties. We are taught that “One who fills his/her stomach while his/her neighbor is hungry is not a believer”. The turkey drive is one way of living up to the spirit of the teachings. Happy Thanksgiving!
