Servings: 6 | Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs halal beef pasinday (beef filet, sliced approximately 1/4 inch thick)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tablespoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper

Step 1

Place the beef in a large pot and add the water, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt.

Step 2

Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the beef is about 90% cooked and most of the water has evaporated.

Step 3

Add oil and black pepper to the pot. Continue cooking over medium heat until the remaining liquid has reduced.

Step 4

Increase the heat slightly and stir-fry the beef for a few minutes, turning occasionally, until the oil separates and the meat is lightly browned and coated with the spices.

Step 5

Serve hot with daal (lentils) and steamed rice for a comforting, traditional meal.
