IFANCA to Showcase North American Halal Products at First Halal Food Middle
East Expo, Sharjah, UAE, December 10-12, 2012

Description: http://www.ifanca.org/img/uploads/Digestnewsletter/showcase_img.jpg

Sharjah, UAE - IFANCA will showcase a selection of North American halal certified foods at the first ever Halal Food Middle East Expo in Sharjah, UAE, from December 10 - 12, 2012. Clients will gain exposure to the Middle Eastern market and some of the most vibrant and innovative economies in the region; brand exposure under a culturally sensitive umbrella; opportunity to gain visibility as key players in the halal industry and direct contact with importers and exporters. Clients who will be represented at the IFANCA pavilion include Abbott Nutrition, Amara Halal Cosmetics, Asti Holdings, China Mist, General Mills, Nutrilite, Organic Valley, R.Torre, Labayk, Toms of Maine and Xango.

The Middle East - The Expanding Halal Market

According to the latest statistics, annual food imports for GCC are expected to grow from $25.8 billion in 2010 to $53 billion in 2020 (Khaleej Times, April 5, 2012). These statistics confirm the huge potential for food related business opportunities in this region. Participation at the Halal Food Middle East Expo in Sharjah will help American and global exporters find a firm foothold in this market. "With the world's Muslim population now around 1.8 billion and rising, few in business can turn their back on such a demographic. Since more than 50% of Muslims worldwide are under the age of 25 and, together, account for more than 10% of the world's population, the prospects for the future look remarkably bright," according to Nigel Gibson writing in The Economist Intelligence Unit, March 2012. The Economist Intelligence Unit confirms that manufactured food presents the biggest opportunity for growth in both Muslim majority and mixed culture countries right now, through the next five years. Globally, Muslims have an annual buying power of $1.3 trillion annually, according to MarketingWeek.com, 2010. Much of this opportunity is untapped.

Pork-free vaccine wins cheers from some Hajj pilgrims – Washington Post

Saudi Arabia, which hosts the Hajj, has made meningitis vaccinations mandatory for pilgrims, since 2002. The ruling was intended to minimize the risk of outbreaks at a mega-gathering such as the Hajj, where almost three million people are expected. The Islamic injunction that medicines, including vaccines, containing porcine ingredients are permissible if there are no alternatives, is often dismissed by many Muslims. “We sometimes go overboard and say, ‘I won’t touch it if it is haram, I’d rather die.’ We have many Muslims like that,” Dr. Chaudry, President, IFANCA was quoted in theWashington Post, “The reason to certify is to make people feel comfortable, so they take it,” he added.

Two important vaccines, Gardasil® and Prevanor ® are now IFANCA halal certified.

IFANCA Halal Certified Enjoy Life Foods Earns Official Non-GMO Project Verification

Description: http://www.ifanca.org/img/uploads/Digestnewsletter/enjoylife.jpg

IFANCA Halal Certified Enjoy Life Foods, the number one brand in the allergy-friendly foods category, recently received the official Non-GMO Project Verification on 24 of its top food products, with additional products still under review. This benchmark places Enjoy Life Foods at the top of the gluten-free/allergy-friendly food chain, as no other "free from" company in the natural foods category has more verified non-GMO products. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology, and it is estimated that GMOs are now present in more than 80 percent of packaged products in the average U.S. or Canadian supermarket. Enjoy Life Foods has made it their mission to create delicious food products made with pure ingredients, and this verification is yet another triumph for the company. Enjoy Life Foods was featured in Halal Consumer magazine’s Fall 2012 Issue

They have previously enjoyed inclusion on Inc. magazine's 500/5000 List of Fastest Growing Private Companies and were recently named a "Standout Small to Medium Sized Business" by the editors of Consumer Goods Technology magazine.

Our Condolences to the Tymchuck and Med Diet Family

On November 7th, 2012 we lost Don Tymchuck, father, husband and founder of Med Diet Inc., Food Service Express and Halalhealthy.com. Our deepest condolences go out to Mrs. Tymchuck and Don’s family.

Don will be remembered for his kind, fair minded and gracious manner. A true visionary, he led his businesses into unchartered paths, reaching un-served and under-served populations, touching lives, earning heartfelt gratitude.

Whether it was his emails wishing us at every Eid holiday, his support of Muslim Students Associations and Council of Islamic Organizations or his promotion of halal at conferences, Don strongly believed in collaborating with the Muslim Community.

When he led the way, success stories emerged – real market breakthroughs that served those with dietary needs such a gluten-free, vegan and halal. But it wasn’t just success in the business arena. Don forged long-standing relationships based on mutual respect.

Today, we have lost not just a business innovator, but a true friend. We, at IFANCA, will sorely miss him.
