"Let Food Manufacturers Be Informed of our Dietary Needs." Almost everyone has, by now, received the email informing them that Doritos has pork enzymes in it. Dilara Sayeed, of Woodridge, IL amongst others, actually did call and verify. This is what she emailed us:
"Salaams. I've received this email from a variety of sources and wanted to make sure it was accurate, so I called the number listed in the email and spoke to a consumer relations manager…. Yes, Doritos Nacho Cheese flavor and other flavors have pork enzymes. The Cool Ranch Doritos does not have pork enzymes but has beef enzymes instead. Rayna, the Fritos Lays manager, took down my information and said she will send me a list of all products from their company that are pork free…. Rayna stated that this has become an issue … and Frito-Lays is currently looking into non-pork options for their products (in order to satisfy Muslim, Jewish, and vegetarian consumers). Obviously, they are taking note of the many calls they may have been receiving. For this reason, I encourage all of us as consumers who are looking for food options that are respectful of our dietary needs to call and politely state our desire to return to eating Doritos! The phone number is 1-800-352-4477."
IFANCA encourages consumers, like Mrs. Sayeed, to go one step further and inform companies about IFANCA and its services. We frequently receive emails and phone calls from consumers, inquiring about the halal status of food service and retail food products. IFANCA does not maintain information about products that are not halal certified by us. We suggest consumers contact the manufacturers of a product, and inquire whether or not their product is halal. You may write, call or email the company's customer service department. Every product carries an address, and most companies have a website with their contact information, including a toll-free number and email address. IFANCA does not certify any Frito-Lay products at this time.
